Excellent speech by Andrew Price at Blender—like the condensed "Atomic Habits" for artists.
Brief breakdown of the Seven "Atomic Habits" of Effective Artists:
Daily Work
Practice your craft every day - even if you only have five minutes. Consistency with any and all good habits pays off.
Volume, Not Perfection
This is hard, especially for artists - but "doing" even if it's imperfect, is better than "not done."
Steal from fellow Artists!
Sound illegal? I once heard - "there are almost no original thoughts." All successful artists borrow from each other. Find your heros.
Conscious Learning
Practice! Practice! Practice! But do it effectively. Be "learning" about your craft while doing, not just practicing futility.
Rest
Simple: Take breaks. This is the Pomodoro Technique coined by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. 25 min on (focused work). Then, a 5 min break.
Feedback
Trust me...of the seven, this habit is NECESCARY.
Create What You Love
If you hate narrating fiction, but love fiction - do more fiction. That doesn't mean you can't try new things, but try to stick with things you can pour passion into.
There it is: A brief overview of the Seven Habits of Effective Artists. I recommmend watching the entire video (it's not long). I always recommend the book "Atomic Habits" by James Clear for anyone and everyone.
