Excellent speech by Andrew Price at Blender—the condensed "Atomic Habits" for artists.
"Atomic Habits" of Effective Artists: HABIT TWO
Habit 2 for Effective Artists: VOLUME NOT PERFECTION
Learning comes from practice. I am on a 210-day streak for exercise and eating, well, "decent." I'm not hard on myself, but I'm consistent. When I got sick this week, I gave myself a necessary break from sweaty, intense exercise - once I could handle it, I realized my ambition to exercise as I had been was slightly less - but I know how habits can be. Easily made, easily broken. Knowing that I ventured out on a snow hike for about fifteen minutes. The next day was a short yoga session - these two measly efforts told my brain, "We're not done!"
Nothing we do will ever be perfect. But, in the words of Aragorn from LOTR, "Deeds will not be less valiant because they are unpraised."
Effort has value - even when imperfect.
